We can’t change our lives if we don’t change the world!

By:
Becky Ellis

The feminist movement in Canada recently got a new boost of energy and inspiration from the Waves of Resistance Pan-Canadian Young Feminist Gathering which took place from October 10-13, 2008 in Montreal, PQ. Over five hundred young women from Canada and Quebec gathered to discuss, share, and organize collectively against sexism, racism, and the rise of the right.

"O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still. See how your enemies are astir... With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish..." (Ps. 83:1-3) It's all a sad attempt to protect the stupidity of the sh*thead in the White House!

Making a Stand: The Fight to Protect Meadowlilly from the Wal-Mart Beast

By:
Tony Weis

As you are probably aware, Wal-Mart is by far the world’s biggest retailer. In 2001, it moved its purchasing headquarters to China, and is the world’s largest importer of Chinese consumer products, many which have been produced under highly exploitative social and environmental conditions.

Thank Nicky Exarchou if America is Stupider than You!

By:
Bobby Meade

Since the US has allowed Illegal Alien Nicky Exarchou to live here since WW II, the USA is now a "nation of sh*theads" with a sh*thead in the White House. When they allowed Nicky to use Hitler's Storm Troopers to form Secret Service, he created a "private army" to protect the stupidity of the sh*t-eating Bush Nazis. Since they made idiotic moron Nicky a doctor, there is not a doctor in the medical profession that will not do what Nicky wants them to do.

Southern Ontario ARA Shuts Down Fascists in London

By:
Jonny Pastrami

On Sunday, July 27th, anti-fascists ("antifa") came together from across Southern Ontario to confront and shut down an attempt by long time hate organizers to intimidate the participants of London's 2008 Pride Parade.

Acting on information found posted on white supremacist websites, antifa in several cities were able to organize and produce the numbers despite minimal preparation time.

Remaking gender – Beyond women’s lives - DRAFT

Far too often, critical responses to prevailing gender arrangements have entailed a narrow focus on women. Efforts to bring about female freedom and empowerment generally have only consisted of responses to women’s lives and opportunities for women. These women-only approaches are inadequate. We cannot effectively support women with these narrow strategies and perspectives, which also have prevented us from bringing about gender arrangements that would better suit the vast majority of humanity—including women.

Imperialism and fossil fuels - DRAFT

This is my speech from our local peace rally on Sunday.

(As I said that day, I plan to add additional material -- including viewing & reading recommendations, and web links. Hopefully I'll find the time to do that soon, but I've been very preoccupied, so I've decided to post this version of the speech first.)

What is a feminist response to Jeopardy?

By:
Jessica Balmer

A few weeks ago I tuned in to watch Jeopardy, as I am wont to do—the occasional category in literature or six-letter words enables me to feel more than a little learned. To my delight, a Teen Tournament had begun a few days earlier, so all of the contestants were high school-aged and the answers were easy—a little too easy perhaps, because one of the first contestants earned nearly $50,000, or at least he would have had he not gotten greedy during Final Jeopardy, but that was another episode. In any case, I was excited to flex my mental muscle with some relatively amateur answers.

I was also pretty jazzed, because on this particular episode of the quarter finals, all of the contestants were women. Chalk it up to my gender, my Women’s Studies education, my feminism, or what have you, but it’s always invigorating to see one, let alone three female faces on what is otherwise a male (if not white male) quiz show panel.

So here I am, calling out questions and watching the scores increase as these incredibly smart young women rally to get into the semis. They cleared the board and waited eagerly as the categories for Double Jeopardy were announced. While I can only remember one in retrospect (and you’ll see why it’s the impetus for this article), the line-up featured the typical topics, and the announcing went something like this: Potpourri, Famous Americans, Starts With ‘S’, Balls, Abbreviations… Wait, what? Balls? Yes, Balls. Balls. Balls was one of the categories in Double Jeopardy for a panel of three female contestants during the 2008 Teen Tournament.
